Description of School Parental Involvement Plan

·         The school district will put into operation programs, activities and procedures for the involvement of parents in all of its schools with Title I, consistent with sections 1112 and 1118 of the No Child Left Behind Act. Those programs, activities and procedures will be planned and operated with meaningful consultation with parents of participating children. Consistent with section 1118, the school district will work with its schools to ensure that the required school-level parental involvement policies meet the requirements of section 1118(b) and each include, as a component, a school-parent compact consistent with section 1118(d).

·         The school district and its schools will provide full opportunities for the participation of parents with limited English proficiency, parents with disabilities, and parents of migratory children, including providing information and school reports required under section 1111 of the NCLB in an understandable and uniform format and, including alternative formats upon request, and, to the extent practicable, in a language parents understand.

S.L. Mason will involve the parents of children served in Title I, Part A in decisions about how funds for parental involvement should be spent. To improve the academic quality of our school, an annual evaluation of the content and effectiveness of the parent involvement policy is conducted. The findings of the evaluation, through school surveys and feedback forms, will be used to design strategies to more effectively meet the needs of parents, and enhance the school’s Title I program.

The Valdosta City Schools (VCS) and S.L Mason recognize that greater family involvement is crucial to student achievement. The staff at S.L. Mason works to plan and implement parent involvement activities that encourage the support of home and community in improving the educational opportunities of all children. To increase and improve parent involvement and school quality, S.L. Mason will actively seek to involve and engage parents in the planning, review and evaluation of Parent Involvement activities by requesting and encouraging parents to offer ideas and suggestions. The Parent Engagement Program believes that parents, schools, families and communities working together can create meaningful partnerships that ultimately lead to significant gains across the board in student achievement; therefore, the goal of the Parent Engagement Program is to increase student achievement by engaging and empowering parents to become actively involved in their children’s education across all grade levels.
