The Jane Goodall Institute Announces Roots & Shoots Celebration of Compassion, Action, & Peace, A Half-Day Event for Atlanta Youth and Educators

Special event on Saturday, September 21 will celebrate the power of youth to turn their ideas into action, inspire one another, and impact change.

(Atlanta, GA) - The Jane Goodall Institute USA has announced the Roots & Shoots Celebration of Compassion, Action, & Peace, an event to be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at The Delta Flight Museum in Atlanta in honor of the United Nations International Day of Peace. From 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., youth and their adult chaperones will be invited to attend workshops, participate in activities, listen to inspiring speakers, and even showcase their big ideas and community impact projects at a project fair.

Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots is a global movement led by millions of passionate young people. Roots & Shoots was started by Jane Goodall and a group of students in Tanzania who felt that everyone can make a change in the world, no matter who they are or where they live.

Today, Roots & Shoots is one of the largest global movements powered by youth. The actions these young leaders are taking in their communities have a collective impact that is changing the course of our shared future. “This is something to celebrate,” says Kamilah Martin, vice president of Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots USA.

“The problems facing our world today are numerous and complex...inequality, pollution, climate change, etc. They require a new approach — a new generation of leaders whose daily decisions are rooted in compassion, determination, and collaboration,” Martin explains. “These complex problems require empowered changemakers using their voices to take action and lead change ... and those compassionate decision makers are already among us.” Martin is, of course, referring to the young activists in Atlanta and communities around the world who are demonstrating determinism, inclusivity, and creativity, and seeing their ideas come to life as lasting change.
